DENISON, TX -- For the first time, Denison ISD's board of directors saw the final plans for the new Munson Stadium.
We were also able to see a 360 degree view of the future stadium. It's been nearly a seven year project, and officials say after seeing the finalized plans, they hope August 2014 comes quick.
At the end of this year's Denison football season the gates will shut... And crews will break ground to bring this 1938 stadium... Into the future.
"it's going to be a modern, up-to-date stadium that this community can take a lot of pride in. And once they see it, I think they're going to be even more excited," Scott
At tonight's school board meeting the final design was unveiled.
A new entrance... ticket booth... Concession stand... a brand new field house for both teams with state-of-the-art amenities... Will all be built.
There will also be more parking and new stands for fans of the home team....
each fan will be able to see a clear view of the field no matter where they're sitting.
Thanks to donors in the community, the renovation project exceeded it's 5 million dollar goal.
So, in addition to those upgrades, they're now able to enhance the sound system, the lighting, as well as upgrade the east side of the stadium.
"we never expected to raise the amount of money we raised," Scott
The donations poured in.... While School and stadium administrators... The athletic director and others all gave input into the design.
"they're the ones that came up with the ideas of where fences were, and where people needed to go and how the stadium actually operates. And we used their input to design the final result," Steve
Those at tonight's meeting had nothing but great things to say about the design.
"the beauty about this is that when the school season of 2014 starts, we're going to have a brand new high school open up and we're going to have a brand new stadium both at the same time," Hawley
