New Grayson County Health Clinic for disadvantaged opens

SHERMAN, TEXAS -- A big celebration this morning as Grayson County,Texoma Medical Center and Texas Health Presbyterian - WNJ opened this health clinic -- a result of their collaboration.

"We're going to be able to meet a need that's currently not being met in Grayson County," County Judge Drue Bynum said.

The clinic will help the uninsured and underinsured afford visits to the doctor. Bynum says it's the future of healthcare.

"This was your government coming together with private organizations, asking for their help. And that's what can be replicated across the united states of america," Bynum said.

TMC CEO Ron Seal says this clinic will help ease the burden on their hospital emergency room, which sees about 55,000 patients annually.

"What this will help us do is keep those individuals out of the high cost ERs, it'll help them to be able to still have access to healthcare, but they'll have the specialty access here," Seal said.

Bynum says diverting patients from the ER to this clinic will allow them to see a primary care physician, improving their care.

"So we can give them cheaper care, more economical care and better care," Bynum said.

WNJ CEO Vance Reynolds sympathizes, saying this hits home to him as a Tom Bean native who grew up without healthcare.

"It really means a lot to me personally, having experienced that growing up, but then also seeing the hurt that's out there today," Reynolds said.

Pain that's being lessened with this new clinic, designed to help the disadvantaged.

"I mean this is a Cinderella story. Very proud of this," Bynum said.

To schedule an appointment, call 903-771-2846. The facility is located at 1111 Gallagher Drive in Sherman. The clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but is closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
