OHP investigating after human remains found in burned SUV

MURRAY COUNTY, OK -- A body was discovered inside a burned vehicle this morning, along I-35 near Davis, and authorities say the death is suspicious.

Captain Ronnie Hampton with the Oklahoma Highway patrol says they have determined that the last registered owner of the SUV is a resident of Marshall County but they have not yet identified the body inside.
Hampton says around 3 this morning, the Davis Fire department was called to a vehicle fire, but once they got it out, found the human remains inside.
Hampton says the adult's body was burned beyond recognition.
He says they'll investigate the death as suspicious until foul play is ruled out by the medical examiner's office, OHP determines whether or not the driver was in lawful possession of the vehicle, and the state fire marshal determines the cause of the fire.
He says there was nothing on the exterior of the SUV to indicate it had been involved in a crash and they don't know if the fire started while the SUV was on the road, or when the vehicle had stopped.
"Right now there are marks that lead from the interstate, down through the grass, right of way up to the point to where the vehicle was located at-that would indicate that there was some steering input," said Hampton.
Captain Hampton says the state fire marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the fire and the body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for autopsy and identification.
