GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- President Obama has nominated U.S. Magistrate Judge Amos Mazzant the 3rd to fill a U.S. District Court seat for the Eastern District of Texas.
Mazzant is a federal magistrate judge in Sherman and would succeed retired Judge T. John Ward.
The Sherman division of the Eastern District has been without a federal judge for over 7 years and the vacancy had been declared a judicial emergency.
The President also made two more nominations for vacant Texas federal court benches Friday and in doing so, broke a long standing logjam with Congress.
The nominations must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate and if approved, they become lifetime appointments.
