Okla. Election Board on track to send out ballots

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma troops stationed around the world and other overseas voters should be getting their absentee ballots soon to vote in November's general election.

Oklahoma State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax (ZEER'-iks) said Wednesday that county election boards across the state are on schedule to meet the Sept. 21 deadline to send out absentee ballots to overseas voters. The ballots were printed last week and delivered to county election boards on Monday.

New federal guidelines require election board officials to send absentee ballots to overseas voters at least 45 days prior to the election. County election boards must send absentee ballots within 48 hours to overseas voters who apply for them after the 45-day deadline. The deadline for voters to request an absentee ballot for the general election is Oct. 31.
