Okla. man leads Sherman Police on high-speed car chase Wednesday

Sherman Police were responding to a call about a stolen vehicle this morning, when the suspect fled arrest - taking police on a high-speed chase.

Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton said 47-year-old Cartwright resident Daniel Hale Keigley was arrested without incident, after he surrendered to police on Hwy 84 near Juanita Drive.

Keigley allegedly rammed at least three Sherman police vehicles as he tried to get away. He led police through northwest Sherman, before heading north on Hwy 75, according to Sherman police.

Texas DPS troopers set up spike strips on Hwy 75, which caught the truck's front, left tire.

Hampton said after the spikes, the vehicle was too damaged to continue.

"The vehicle became inoperable because of the flat tire and maybe because of mechanical issues," he said.

Hampton said officers fired at the truck. But Sherman Police are still investigating the shots, and if Keigley fired any shots as well.

Bonnie Sanders works at a physical therapy clinic across from where Keigley was arrested. She witnessed the dramatic end to the chase.

"When I first looked up I thought it was a wreck, or they were trying to pull him over because of damage to the truck," she said. "But then when we heard so many sirens and counted about 15 to 20 police cars we knew it was something more than that."

She said he was driving on only a rim and the car was badly damaged.

"By the time they had gotten down here, they had gotten in front of him and angled him off," she said. "So it looked like there were cop cars in front, on the side and behind him."

Hampton said the cars that were rammed got pretty roughed-up.

"What vehicles I've seen, they are pretty heavily damaged. Now whether they're completely totaled, I don't believe they would be," he said. "That's something that will have to be checked into and looked at."

Keigley is charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer, two counts of theft of more than $1,500 and less than $20,000, and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, according to Hampton.

Neither Keigley, police officers nor civilians were injured in the chase, Hampton said.
