OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Oklahoma students who fail to pass all of the required tests under Oklahoma's Achieving Classroom Excellence Act would still be able to graduate from high school under a bill being introduced in the state Legislature.
Democratic state Sen. Earl Garrison of Muskogee says his bill would allow students who score 18 or higher on the ACT exam would qualify them as meeting all the ACE end-of-instruction testing requirements.
The 2012 class was the first required to complete all the requirements under the 2005 ACE act. It led to concern from some school districts over the number of students who were unable to pass the required four of seven tests in order to graduate.
State Superintendent Janet Barresi has consistently said she supports the more rigorous standards required under ACE.
