Petition to re-open Lake Fannin presented to commissioners

FANNIN COUNTY, Texas - A petition to re-open Lake Fannin was presented to commissioners this morning.

Representatives of Lake Fannin Volunteers presented over 1,400 signed petitions by registered voters in Fannin County.

The lake was closed by the Forest Service earlier this year due to hazardous trees that are a public health and safety concern.

Petitioners want the lake to be placed under the control of the county and re-opened to the public.

"We're going to meet and try to see what we can do from here and try to see what we can do to get Lake Fannin opened back up." said County Judge Spanky Carter.

The meeting is scheduled the week of August 26th and will include Lake Fannin Volunteers, the Forest Service and county commissioners.
