Planned Parenthood wants injunction restored

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Planned Parenthood appealed a federal court ruling that allows Texas to withhold state women's health care funding from its clinics.

A Planned Parenthood statement says its Texas affiliates joined to ask the entire 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider a three-judge 5th Circuit Court panel's decision. That decision struck down a lower-court ruling that blocked the state from withholding funding to Planned Parenthood from the state Women's Health Program.

The petition contends the panel's Aug. 21 ruling, in making its ruling, violated U.S. Supreme Court precedents. The petition asks for a full rehearing by the entire appeals court.

There was no immediate response from the New Orleans-based appeals court.
