Police arrest husband in Sherman murder

SHERMAN, TX - Sherman Police have made an arrest after a woman was found dead inside her home Monday night. Officers say 69-year-old Candelario Luna shot and killed his wife, 59-year-old Maria Luisa Sanchez.

Police say they found Sanchez dead from a gunshot wound at a home in the 500 block of South Willow around 6 p.m. Monday. They say evidence indicates Luna shot his wife in a domestic dispute.

Officers found Luna at a convenience store in the 500 block of South Walnut a short time later and arrested him for murder.

Neighbor Bobbie Mohn said she didn't hear the murder - or anything out of the ordinary.

She looked out her window when police arrived.

"I heard some doors slamming, and looked out the window. And seen some police officers lined up the road. And they were running toward the house," she said. "It was chaotic."

Mohn said she saw Sanchez outside often.

"She had a little teacup chihuahua she'd let out after she got home from work. She was a real quiet lady," she said.

She said Sanchez frequently had guests at her house, but they always kept to themselves.

"It was just real surprising to have something like that happen to her," Mohn said.

Most nights on South Willow are quiet, she said.

"Normally about the most you might here is traffic going up and down the street. Other than that you don't hear anything," she said. "Real out of the ordinary."

Investigators canvassed the area Tuesday.

Luna remains in the Grayson County Jail, facing murder charges.

Police say their investigation is ongoing and urge anyone with information on the crime to call them at 903-892-7290.
