SHERMAN, TX -- The boys in blue took a break from patrolling, and hit the dinner table for some eating, all for a good cause.

The Sherman and Denison police departments took part in the first annual rib-eating challenge, to benefit a local charity.

"We are really pumped up to eat ribs. We've been waiting for this for about a week now. We've been preparing, testing, fasting. We've been fasting for three days, and stretching," said Sherman police, Greg Brummett and Kirk Buskirk.

"Of course, we think the Denison police department is going to win. We're out here for the Children's Advocacy Center. Texas Roadhouse put this on and we're glad to be here," said Denison officer Will Deering.

The two departments had to eat 5 ribs each, but each team had an anchor who ate an entire slab of meat.

The Sherman police department pulled out the win.
Event organizers say they hope to make the contest an annual event.

This was an awesome event to raise money for the Children's Advocacy Center. It's a great organization to raise money to help kids that need help the most. And for those of you who think it was a joke, just what are you doing to help raise money for a charity, any charity? This event brought the community together to help kids. Thanks to Texas Roadhouse for sponsoring such a worthwhile event!

Dear Texana, Fasting for 3 days in order to down the maximum ribs is not the greatest way to create awareness. I help kids by volunteering time and teaching. We need to eat healthy and keep our servings limited to stay healthy. What kind of example do "Rib Downing" cops set??
