Pool safety tips

SHERMAN, TX -- A new study from the Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that drowning in pools and spas is the leading cause of death among children.

With summer right around the corner, experts say parents should teach their kids now about swim safety.

They even recommend parents get infants used to the water by holding them in the pool and using a coast guard approved life jacket.

"The number one safety tip is parental supervision, keep your eye on the kids whenever they're in the water, whether its in a pool like this where there are life guards or if its at a lake where there are no life guards," said Theresa Hutchinson, Recreation manager in Sherman.

The Splash in Sherman opens Saturday, May 26, and parents can sign their children up for swimming lessons online.
