Prank 911 calls a problem in Sherman

SHERMAN, TX - Sherman Police say they're being inundated with prank 911 calls and are asking for parents' help.

Police say there's been an increase of fake 911 calls from children using old cell phones. The problem is that even without service the phones can still make emergency calls. They say not only are these calls annoying and illegal, they're tying up 911 lines and dispatchers from real emergencies.

Police are asking parents to talk to their kids about the 911 system and to remove batteries from old cell phones before giving to a child to play with.
