The Red Cross in Pontotoc county taught volunteers how to help their communities during a disaster.
The training included two classes. Tthe first was disaster service overview held in the morning.
That class focused on what volunteers could do to prepare and respond in the event of a disaster.
In the second class, volunteers learned the ins and outs of running a shelter during an emergency.
One volunteer spent her Saturday in these classes so she'll be ready when disaster strikes.
"I'm still trying to continue and learn as much as I can so if I ever am called in to volunteer with any disasters I'll know what exactly to be doing," said Linzi Thomspon, a Red Cross volunteer.
Red Cross said you can look to emergency management, sheriff's offices or media for information in the event of a disaster.
