Roads remain icy following winter storm

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says roads in western, eastern, and southeastern Oklahoma remain slick and hazardous following winter storms that dumped snow, ice and sleet on most of the state.

Also, Texas officials are discouraging travel on southbound Interstate 35 just past the Oklahoma state line and from U.S. 69/75 from Colbert into Denison, Texas. Oklahoma Highway 91 into Texas has been closed because of numerous accidents.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Lt. Scott Hampton described the roads as a virtual parking lot.

ODOT says roads conditions are improving, but remain slick due to refreezing and that crews are working around the clock in an effort to clear them.

The department says roads in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas are relatively clear, but remain slick in spots.
