Scramble For Kids Fundraiser Raises over $102,000

THACKERVILLE, OK--Over two hundred supporters tee'd off early this morning at the Wintsar golf course in Thackerville as part of the scramble for kids golf tournament fundraiser benefiting the Shriners Children's Hospital in Louisiana.

"A lot of people don't know but our Shreveport hospital sees more children after we see kids from Louisiana, we see more kids from Oklahoma than any other state and the support we get from the people in Oklahoma has been magnificent" said Green.

Shiner hospital Board member Walter Gilcrease said the Shiners' children's hospitals are nonprofit organizations that serve children with or without healthcare.

"The child or parent will not pay any money we will take of the kid, if they have no insurance we are going to welcome that kid if he has nothing we are going to take care of that kid" said Gilcrease.

Gilcrease said even though the hospital is located in Louisiana, Oklahomans can take advantage of the free health services.

"We have treated over 56 thousand Oklahoma children" said Gilcrease.

Organizers said it is because of their contributions to children everywhere that's kept the Scramble for kids fundraiser going for 6 years now.

"Everything that we can raise, makes a difference in some child's life and that's why we do it" said Wright.

At Saturday's event more than 102 thousand dollars was raised for the children's hospital.

"Thanks to all these people who work so hard that you see around these golf course here today here and these sponsors if it wasn't for these people we couldn't take care of the children" said Gilcrease.
