ARDMORE, OK -- Investigators are working to identify a scammer posing as a Carter County sheriff's deputy.
Carter County Sheriff Milton Anthony says they've received multiple reports over the past couple days from residents. They say a man called them claiming to be a deputy, telling them to buy a Green Dot card to send money, or else he'd get a warrant for their arrest.
Anthony says a real deputy would never call and ask for money and he says Green Dot cards are a common tool used by scammers.
"They use that because it's easy. It's very easy to use that card. It's one of the easiest ways for them to get the money," the sheriff told News 12.
Anthony says if you receive a call from this scammer, contact the Carter County Sheriff's Office at 580-223-6014.
