Sherman Police investigate fatal shooting

SHERMAN, TX - A shooting in Sherman leaves one Fannin County man dead, and the person who called 911 was the shooter.

"It's the white house with the white picket fence around it."

Olin Ray Womack owns the two houses next door to where Leroy Gray was shot to death early this morning.

"The squad cars started coming up, they started pulling out the crime scene tape and criming it off," Womack said.

Police say someone called 911 around 2:00am, saying they had just shot and killed a man in the 1400 block of South Walnut.

Sherman Police Lieutenant Ken Brooks says when they got there, they found 30-year-old Gray shot to death

"Right now, they're currently investigating it to determine whether or not its going to be a criminal offense or whether or not its going to be a shooting that's justified by self defense," Brooks said.

In the state of Texas, anytime an individual is killed intentionally, Brooks says, it's considered a murder.

"You have a criminal offense but the decision on whether or not it will be prosecuted will be made by the district attorney's office."

Womack says his whole neighborhood is shocked.

"That house is a real real quiet place. Nobody knows what goes on there. Everybody knows everybody down here. Its just a surprise that this happened."

Police say an autopsy has been ordered and results are pending. No arrests have been made.
