Sherman Police searching for suspect who shot store owner in the face

SHERMAN, Texas -- Sherman Police are looking for the man who allegedly shot a convenience store owner in the face with a BB gun during an armed robbery on Friday.

"Even with a BB gun, you strike somebody's eye and you have serious impairment obviously," said Sherman Police Sgt. D.M. Hampton.

He says the owner of the Express Food Mart on East Lamar street and his wife told police they were locking up, when a black male approached them and demanded money. When they resisted, the suspect fired his weapon at the owner.

"One of them hit him in the nose, and then one of them hit him in the hand somewhere," said Sgt. Hampton.

He says the suspect was covered except for his hands, and got away with the woman's purse, and some other money, then fled South on foot, "It's an undetermined amount right now, but it's probably several hundred dollars."

Sherman police say the owner did not have to be hospitalized for his injuries and will recover.

Store owners across from the food mart told us the robbery is concerning, but they haven't experienced any similar crimes.

Sherman police recommend every business install surveillance cameras, and say if you find yourself being robbed, always put your safety first.

"The best thing to do is just give them the money, the money is not worth your life or getting injured," said Sgt. Hampton.

Police say they need the public's help locating the suspect. If you have any information, contact Detective Miller at the Sherman Police Department: (903) 892-7281.
