SHERMAN, TEXAS -- It's the season of long lines at the post office, and few know this as well as business owner Jon Renfro.
"I've been very busy this season, just waiting in lines, just like this one here. I've already been here for over 15 minutes and I'm still at the back of the line," Renfro said.
Renfro is one of many Texomans who are braving the long lines to get packages out in time for the holidays. He's shipping boxes of handmade jewelry to his customers.
"And I sell it online and at art and craft shows and stuff and that's what I'm doing: shipping some stuff out," Renfro said.
Sherman Postmaster Steve Fuhr says these long lines are nothing compared to the amount of packages going in and out of their mailroom.
"We've seen a larger increase in our parcels this year. In the last few years I'd say it's doubled. If not doubled, pretty close to double," Fuhr said.
Fuhr says this is the busiest they've been in about two years.
"It's pretty hectic. I don't think I've had a lunch in the last two weeks," Fuhr said.
Fuhr says, in order to get your mail delivered by Christmas, regular mail should be sent by Saturday.
"If you're going to send it express, I wouldn't hesitate past Monday," Fuhr said.
As for helping your mail carrier this holiday season, Fuhr says baked goods go a long way.
"Sugar helps. Sugar and caffeine helps," Fuhr said.
