WHITESBORO, TEXAS -- The Grayson County Sheriff's Office is investigating a concealed handgun license instructor after one of his students accidentally shot a man during class.

On Saturday, CHL students, led by instructor Ricky Ramsey, were shooting into a field behind the Whitesboro rodeo grounds when a stray bullet struck a man fishing at a pond nearby.

Lt. Rickey Wheeler says the bullet went through the man's body, missing his heart by a few inches.

Instructor Ramsey tells News 12 he received certification from a 2-day NRA program back in March and has been teaching classes in Bridgeport and Whitesboro, but Lt. Wheeler says CHL instructors in Texas have to be certified by the state.

The man who was shot is okay.
