Soldiers welcomed home

DURANT, OK -- The Durant community gathered to welcome home local heros this morning. The soldiers got back from Kuwait earlier this year.

Soldiers of the 1st Squadron, 180th Cavalry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Teamreturned home in April. This weekend is the first drill back and they were officially welcomed home with some fun activities.

The Soldiers and their families were able to enjoy some music, games and food. The Soldiers and the Family Readiness Group also used the time to thank the Texoma area for their support.

While Soldiers were away, the Texoma community came together in many ways to help out family members while their loved ones were away.

"The outpouring of support from Texoma was unbelievable and it really helped us and gave us peace of mind that our families were taken care of by all the many organzations that came together to support our families," Lt. Col. Chris Chomosh said.

"It gives a boost of energy for each one of us to know that if they have any need at all, whatever it is from the smallest to the largest we have people out there that are going to go the distance and do whatever they possibly can to help in any way," coordinator, Darla Moody said.

This weekend is the Soldiers' first drill back in their newly refurbished $1.9 million armory. They were excited about that as well.
