ARDMORE, OK--An Ardmore family is left homeless after yesterdays storm blew the roof off their home.

Emergency management officials said winds from last night's storm were as high as 48 miles per hour in Ardmore strong enough to rip a roof from a home.

That is exactly what happened around 9:30 p.m. at a mobile home off of highway 77 in Ardmore. Ashley Lemon said her husband had left for work and she was at home with her two young daughters when she felt a strong gust of wind.

She said when she went to look outside her roof was on the ground. Lemon said she had no idea straight line winds could do this much damage. She and her family are now looking for a new home but she said she feels lucky that she and her kids are alive.

Emergency officials said if winds get up to 58 miles per hour they are considered severe enough to take shelter as you would for a tornado.

This is a true disaster! I'm sorry for that family being homeless! The whole area should help them in a time of need!! If this was Africa we would build them a village

48mph winds took off a roof? I'd consider a different design on the next one. I would like to say thank you to Amanda Brown, though.
