LAMAR COUNTY, TX-- Strong winds spread a large wild fire in Lamar County Tuesday.

Powderly Assistant Volunteer Fire Chief, Ed Handley, says the grass fire broke out just before 2:30 P.M. in the 500 block of CR 44140.

He says four Lamar County volunteer fire departments and one Oklahoma fire department responded to help put out the blaze, that burned about 40 acres.

Fire officials urge residents to not do any outdoor burning when there are strong winds.
