Suspect in stabbings extradited from Oklahoma

PAULS VALLEY, Okla. (AP) - A man accused in the fatal stabbings of his ex-girlfriend and her 8-year-old son has returned to Texas after his arrest in Oklahoma.

Cedric Ricks is charged with capital murder in the May 1 deaths of Roxann Sanchez and 8-year-old Anthony Reyes Figueroa. He was arrested in Pauls Valley.

Garvin County Sheriff Larry Rhodes tells the Pauls Valley Democrat that Ricks was attacked by other inmates Thursday. He says Ricks suffered "visible injuries" to his face but that they weren't serious.

Court records show Ricks waived his extradition proceedings and was booked Friday in the Tarrant County jail. In his mugshot, Ricks has a black eye that's swollen shut.

The sheriff says the district attorney's office is now reviewing the assault to determine whether any charges will be filed.
