TCOG accepts $100k for Grayson Co. elderly health care

SHERMAN, TX -- More than 1,200 area senior citizens will soon be able to get more medical help.

The TCOG governing board accepted a $100,000 grant tonight for the Area Agency on Aging Care Coordination Program.

The program provides registered nurses to elderly residents in Cooke, Grayson and Fannin Counties, who are homebound and unable to care for themselves. More than 1,200 elderly receive assistance in Grayson county alone.

"There's a great need right now especially in the area of dental services. Because so many seniors do not have coverage and Medicare does not cover any sort of, or provide for dental services," TCOG Aging Services Director, Karen Bray, said.

The grant will go towards dental expenses, hearing aids and glasses for those in the Grayson County.
