AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The state's chief accountant is calling for ballots in local bond elections to spell out the tax and debt ramifications before voters check yes or no.

A report released Wednesday by Republican Comptroller Susan Combs centers on data showing local debt doubling in the past decade, and outpacing population growth and inflation. It's an issue fiscal conservatives and tea party groups have begun targeting with greater focus.

Combs says she's not making judgments on local projects but believes voters aren't being armed with enough information before casting their ballot.

The report is titled "Your Money and Local Debt." County officials typically answer criticism about bond packages as necessities to maintain infrastructure for more residents.

Combs is widely rumored to be mulling a run for lieutenant governor in 2014.
