DENISON, TX -- Today Houston Elementary 5th graders learned about Tar Wars. As part of the program, Dr. Duke Carlson went to the school to educate the youngsters about the dangers smoking.

The interactive program covered everything from how much cigarettes can cost a user in their lifetime, to what it feels like to breathe like a smoker.

Tar Wars is an international program that is branching out in Grayson County from Denison to Pottsboro.

"It's a really interactive program where we talk to the kids about the immediate effects of smoking so we talk about the yellow teeth, the bad breath, and the hacking coughs and all these things that happen to the body right away when kids start smoking," said Dr. Carlson.

This is the 16th year for the program and Dr. Carlson to be at Houston Elementary.
