DURANT, OK -- A Durant resident is running in what is known as the elite marathon, for the eighth consecutive year.
Larry Qualls will be running in the Boston Marathon this Monday. The qualifying time for his age is 4 hours and 10 minutes, but he beat that -- qualifying for this year's race with a time of 3 hours and 57 minutes.
Qualls started running 18 years ago and says it's just a hobby he really enjoys. He's been training for this marathon for three months, clocking in about 70 miles a week.
"I feel honored just to be able to run the Boston. There will be probably 16,000 runners ahead of me because it's an elite field of runners. And so, I just feel privileged to be there and be part of it," Qualls said.
Qualls is striving to qualify for Boston for ten consecutive years. 27,000 runners are expected to participate.
