Texomans share their New Year's Resolutions

SHERMAN, TX-As we ring in the new year, many of us are thinking about what changes we plan to make in 2013.

While some of the most common New Year's resolutions are to lose weight, get in shape and kick bad habits, we also heard some less common, but heartfelt resolutions this year from Texomans who are determined to change. Monday, we also got tips from the experts to keep you on track to your goals.

Denison's Brad Billy said he always had the same New Year's resolution every year.

"In the past, I've always wanted to be fit. Always wanted to do better and get in shape and that's about it," he said.

But he said 2013 will be different.

"Do more, do better than I did last year. Be a better parent, better father and just be a better all around person," he said.

But for Morris Key of Van Alstyne, his New Year's resolution has always been the same. That is, to stay out of trouble.

"I've had the same resolution every year and it's worked for 20 years now, so I'm just gonna continue that same resolution," he said.

With the New Year nearly upon us, Nautilus manager, Shawn Teamann said more people are rushing into the gym as is the case every year.

"The excitement's starting to pick up. You can see the gym's starting to fill up a little bit more. But you know, we really get the majority of people coming in after the first week or two," he said.

Teamann said their clients tend to stay motivated in the first few weeks and to keep on task, it's important not to be discouraged.

"If you see results, more than likely you'll stick with it. It's people who don't really see results that tend to fall off, they don't see it working so my recommendation is come up and ask for help," he said.

"I've been going to this gym ten years now so I guess it's been a pretty good resolution for ten years now, so I guess I haven't failed on that one," said Billy.

For others like Patti Cummings, it's a simple matter of being happy.

"Oh the diets come and go, you know, just like all of them. I'm born to be who I am, just as long as I'm happy. That's the other thing, I want lots of happiness," she said.

While many are heading to local bars or even go to Times Square to celebrate, dozens of Texomans rang in the New Year by taking part in Nautilus' "Resolution Ride" by cycling until midnight.
