Thousands of dollars missing from a Sherman church

SHERMAN, TX -- Dozens of parents are now struggling to find a daycare for their kids, after a Sherman church daycare closed it's doors on short notice.

According to a parent, the Key Learning Center let them know on December 20th that daycare services would not resume in the new year. Parents were not given an explanation, but Sherman police have launched an investigation into this church.

Sherman police say Key United Methodist's pastor, Jim Welch, filed a report with the department stating several thousand dollars is missing from the church. The exact amount missing is unknown at this time, but it's somewhere between $20,000 and $100,000 dollars.

Our phone calls to the pastor were not returned. It's unknown whether the daycare is closed permanently. Sherman police are investigating.

"A report was made from the church itself about the money being taken from the church. So, like I said that's what they're kind of delving into. The records all the stuff that is going on, and looking into that. And like I said, with doing that they can come up with a better dollar amount," Sgt. D.M. Hampton said.

We'll continue to follow this story and bring you any new details as they become available.
