Toxic Sherman site to be demolished in August

SHERMAN, TEXAS -- An inactive cast-iron foundry in Sherman, that's stood since 1947, will be demolished at the end of August.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been working to remove hazardous wastes and liquids from the site since 2005.

Online records from earlier this year state that the foundry is "unsafe because of structural disintegration."

The Sherman Foundry is the only Superfund site in Grayson County, which is classified as a toxic site where wastes have been dumped.
