Kids sell candy at annual "Treats for Troops"

DENISON, TX -- Texoma children traded in their Halloween candy for a treat Monday.

Lake Texoma Dental Care and Wellness hosted Treats for Troops. Kids got one dollar for each pound of candy they brought in, which will be sent to military men and women overseas. They even got to write a thank you note to troops.

Valerie Ferman says not only is this a good way to get rid of kids' extra candy, but it's a way to give back to those who serve our country.

"They need as much help as they can get. I mean they are away from their families all the time, and just getting letters from kids I can imagine how that would impact me if I was away from my family," Ferman said.

The buyback started at 3 p.m. and ended at 7 p.m., but they will except candy donations through Friday.
