Two arrested in shooting of Delta County Game Warden

DELTA COUNTY, TX -- Authorities have made two arrests in connection with the shooting of an off-duty Delta County Game Warden.

21-year old Dalton Haddix and 18-year old Eli Stephens, both of Illinois, were arrested Tuesday for allegedly shooting Game Warden Chris Fried Sunday evening.

Investigators say Fried was bow hunting at the Cooper Wildlife Management area when he heard an electronic game call and saw a light. Fried thought someone was hunting illegally and as he got closer to the light he was shot. Fried was in area where hunting was restricted to archery only.

Stephens has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and Haddix was charged with failure to report a felony.

Fried remains in stable condition in Parkland Hospital's intensive care unit.
