Two candidates file to run for open Ardmore city commission seat

ARDMORE, OK -- The at-large seat on the city commission goes up for grabs in May, when incumbent Keith King's term ends.

Doug Pfau and Darrell Mink have both announced they'd like to fill that seat - and explain why they're choosing to run.

"I'm now at a point where I don't have my hands full so much that I can devote a little time to giving back. And I love Ardmore and the citizens of Ardmore have been good to me," Mink said.

"Now that I've been here and been around it Ardmore's amazing and I want Ardmore to still be the place that my kids want to raise their children too," Pfau said.

Pfau has lived in Ardmore since he was in high school and has been a warehouse manager for Dollar General for more than eight years. He said his experience on the job would translate well to the city commission.

"I think what those skills will give me is I manage people. I'm used to being around people, I like being around people. And I can help people and delegate and help people understand things," he said.

An Ardmoreite for more than 25 years, Mink owns and runs a laundry business..and has run other businesses in the past. He said his experience with all kinds of people would qualify him for the seat.

"I've visited through the years in the donut shop and through other jobs that I've had with the common man as well as the business man. And I know their sides and I understand them," he said.

Anyone else interested in running can file with the city clerk from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. A primary election will take place March 4 and a general election is scheduled for April 1 if other candidates file.
