JEFFERSON COUNTY, OK -- Two people drowned at Waurika Lake Friday in two separate incidents.

OHP says 41-year-old Gary Vance Burkhart II drowned near Kiowa Campground around 3:30 p.m. Troopers say he jumped into the lake to swim, but found the water was extremely rough. Authorities say Burkhart's wife went to get a life jacket and when she returned her husband was nowhere to be found.

About four hours later a Duncan teen drowned near Chisolm Campground. OHP says 18-year-old Maximiliano Garcia ran into the water to retrieve a soccer ball. Troopers say he went too far out and began to struggle. Authorities say family members tried to rescue him, but were not able to reach him.

Less than two weeks ago a 12-year-old boy from Roff drowned at the same lake.
