SHERMAN, TX -- The snow is causing accidents and delays for many travelers. Road crews are working hard to keep the roads as safe as possible this evening.

TxDOT officials say right now the main focus is putting down thousands of pounds of chat, a sand-like mixture, on the highly traveled roads like Highway 75 and Highway 82.

If you don't have to travel its best you stay home, but if you'll be driving take your time, especially on the bridges, overpasses and the on and exit ramps -- which tend to be slick or even iced over.

TxDOT officials are also focusing on FM 1417 and Highway 289 in Grayson county.

When these road crews are out, be sure to stay at least 200 feet behind the truck. Also, allow plenty of room between your vehicle and others. If you do get stuck, stay inside your vehicle and call 911. Emergency officials and wreckers are expecting the calls.
