TxDOT studying dangerous intersection in Paris

PARIS, TX-- The Traffic Commission met Tuesday night to hear what recommendations TxDOT has made for a dangerous intersection in Paris.

In November, the Traffic Commission sent in recommendations for rumble strips and LED lights at the intersection of FM 1497 and Loop 286.

TxDOT says they think changing the yield sign to a stop sign and adding a sign that says "crossing traffic does not stop" would be better.

"They are still studying this intersection trying to come up with better ways to improve it, said Coordinator Randy Tuttle. "Even though they had some suggestions and ideas based on what we sent them earlier."

Tuttle says they will be in contact with TxDOT as they continue to investigate the intersection.

Since 1995 the intersection has seen nearly forty accidents and five fatalities since 2000, the most recent -- Paris Paramedic Joe Howard.
