TxDOT takes public comments on Highway 82 study

GAINESVILLE, TX-Cooke county residents weigh in on a study conducted by TxDOT which may bring some changes to its major roadways.

TxDOT held a public meeting at the Gainesville Civic Center Thursday, asking for comments on a feasibility study of U.S. Highway 82 in Cooke county. Area Engineer Mike Hallum said they are looking into widening the highway and adding loops on 82 and I-35 to help drivers get around the county faster. He also presented proposed alternative routes, which will help ease congestion on 82 through Gainesville. Hallum said they have been getting calls from drivers passing through the county.

"It affects everybody's everyday lives and everyday we get concerned citizens call asking ' what can you do to make my drive shorter to where I'm trying to go?' And that's why we're here tonight to address those issues," he said.

Hallum said the entire project might take 20 years to finish and will cost $200 million.
