115 people were killed and thousands more injured in construction zones last year in Texas alone and TxDOT is working to lower those numbers.
As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week and TxDOT and the Federal Highway Administration are joining forces to help raise awareness and save lives.
They urge you to stay alert, slow down, and remember the people working on the roads unprotected.
Paris District Engineer Paul Montgomery said, "We have workers out that pick debris up and clear the road of dead animals and they have overhead lights and the law now is to move over and slow down for our workers the same as it is for law enforcement."
Officials say the biggest cause of crashes are failure to control speed and distracted driving.
