GAINESVILLE, TX -- Jurors heard closing arguments Wednesday in a Cooke County murder trial.

Juan Rodriguez-Olivas is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his 22-year-old girlfriend Linda Barrett.

Barrett's body was found inside a trash bag in a closet at a Gainesville home in June of last year. She was stabbed 31 times.

Rodriguez- Olivas says he acted in self-defense after Barrett came at him with a knife.

The defense also claims much of the evidence gathered by investigators was obtained illegally.

But, Assistant DA Ron Poole argued the investigation was legal and told the jury Rodriguez- Olivas has been changing his story since he was arrested.

The jury reconvenes Thursday.
