GRAYSON CO., TX -- Shigella continues to spread in Grayson County.

Since January 21st 8 more cases have been confirmed by the Grayson County Health Department and the number of cases now stands at 125.

The last three cases were reported in Sherman.

Health officials says the infection occurs when the shigella bacteria is ingested.

It causes severe diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain.

If you have those symptoms, see a doctor and you are urged to report them to the Grayson County Health Department.

It appears flu cases in both Texas and Oklahoma are declining.

The Grayson County Health Department says during the week ending on January 25th 279 students were absent from schools reporting they had a flu-like illness but the next week just 118 students were out sick with those symptoms.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Health's website flu hospitalizations have decreased there as well after a spike last month.
