Van Alstyne is awarded "Great First Responders"

VAN ALSTYNE, TX-- Van Alstyne first responders are credited for saving two men's lives. They were awarded for their heroism Thursday.

Van Alstyne fire fighters, EMS crews, and police were all given the "Great First Responders" award. It's given by Careflight and the DFW Hospital Council.

The crews were awarded for their quick action, after a wall collapse in April, that sent 1,000 pounds of concrete crumbling onto 2 men.

Van Alstyne city manager, Frank Baker, said the effort couldn't have been done without support from other Grayson County emergency departments.

"I believe it says that departments in Grayson county are doing an outstanding job, working well together to make sure the community are safe and that are going to be effective," Baker explained.

Over 500 responders have received this award and this is the 6th year the award has been presented.
