WHITEWRIGHT, TX - A North Texas woman involved in an accident Friday morning in Whitewright is recovering tonight.

Whitewright Police tell us Derek Spanks of Kingston, Oklahoma, was southbound on Highway 69 around 10:30 a.m. when he failed to yield at the Highway 11 intersection and hit a Chevy HHR driven by Karen Salmon from Terrell, Texas.

Salmon had to be flown to a Dallas hospital with possible back, neck, and shoulder injuries. Police say Salmon was conscious and talking to paramedics after the collision, and no one else was hurt.

Paula, I was also there and if your nephew did not hit her and flip her over then who did, like anonymous said your nephew will have to pay for what he did. What is so funny and that I can't understand is why in the world was your nephew not even hurt in the accident? WOW

This for the ANONYMOUS PERSON replying to my comment. Your right I wasn't there!! I am not taking up for him just because he is my nephew!! Common since will tell you he could not have run that stop sign the way they say he did!! For your information I have photos of the accident scene. The whole accident scene!! While the vehicles were still there. It doesn't take a genius to see what happened!! You must be the witness on the scene that couldn't decide what story you wanted to tell. After all you gave 2 different stories!!!! You have your opinion and I have mine!! So be it!!

This has become an extremely dangerous intersection. My mother was hit here about a month ago because of someone failing to STOP COMPLETELY! When are they going to start watching this intersection or install traffic lights?? I was nearly mowed over by a semi-truck who failed to yield from 11 towards 69 just Thursday. Our prayers are with Karen too as we ourselves have just been through this! Be safe in Whitewright, TX....

Thats a heck of a lot of damage for 2 vehicles that had come to a complete stop before proceding.

This to Misty. As I said He DID NOT run the stop sign!! He had an 18 wheeler in front of him who stopped at the stop sign therefore he had to stop to wait for the 18 wheeler to go before he could go. Has anyone not stopped to think that maybe this lady possibly run the stop sign?!!!! As far as texting while driving goes my nephew is not an irresponsible young teenager. He is a responsible, hard working husband and father of two beautiful young children who were all in the vehicle with him at the time of the accident.
