Ardmore woman killed in Lake Murray boat accident

ARDMORE, OK - Search and rescue teams in Carter County have recovered the body of an Ardmore woman involved in a boating accident Saturday night.

Carter County Sheriff Ken Grace said 51-year-old Robbie Brooks was ejected when the boat she was in collided with another boat around 10 p.m. Saturday near Tipps Point on Lake Murray.

According to the accident report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Brooks was a passenger in a boat with her husband and 17-year-old son when their boat was struck from the rear by another boat, driven by 34-year-old Kevin Hitt carrying six passengers.

Rescue workers searched for Brooks Saturday night and all day Sunday using aircraft, divers and sonar equipment. Officials confirmed Brooks body was recovered around 6 p.m. Sunday.

The report states Hitt was driving too fast for night conditions and that alcohol could have played a role in the accident.

According to her Facebook page, Brooks was a Madill native and worked as a comptroller at the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore.

Nine other people were involved in the boat collision. None of them are reported to be injured.
