DENISON, TX -- According to bullyingstatistics.org, one out of four kids are bullied every month in the U.S, and 160,000 kids miss school each day for the fear of being bullied.

Morgan Downing tells us about Two Denison middle school girls who have fallen into those statistics, and how they are making a change.

These two Denison middle school girls are victims of bullying.

"I've been bullied before and it's not fun because, and then everyone starts making fun of you and they think it's funny but it's not. It really hurts," Makayla Madden said.

"I've been bullied and I see other people getting bullied and it's not cool but people think it is," Serena Cuellar said.

"It hurts a lot of people, not just the person you're bullying," Madden said.

Serena Cuellar and Makayla Madden decided they needed to take a stand and make a change. So, they began "Walk Away from Bullying" Their mission: raise awareness and put a stop to the mistreatment that occurs every day.

"We had just thought that if one, if two people can stand up for someone, or even one person that we can make a difference," Cuellar said.

On Sunday, dozens took the pledge to walk away from bullying. Makayla and Serena led the group more than a mile around Waterloo Lake in Denison. Supportive messages and smiling faces signify this is just the beginning for the girls and their new mission.

"It makes me feel glad that people care about, that people care and they support us through things," Cuellar said.

The girls hope their organization will not only help end bullying but let people know that if they're victims, talk about it with others.

"It doesn't matter what other people think about them. That it just matters that they know that it's not true and that they can always talk to a friend or counselor or teacher. Cause sometimes it's easier to talk to kids than adults." Cuellar said.
