Mercury Astronaut Remembered

10-5-04 - One of the original Mercury astronauts who pioneered human space exploration, has died. Gordon Cooper was 77. The Shawnee, Oklahoma native died in his California home. Cooper was the youngest of the "Mercury seven," and maybe the cockiest.

10-5-04 - Carrollton police are appealing to the public for clues in the shooting of a 55-year-old bus driver for country-music star Toby Keith overnight. The shooting happened late Monday night in Carrollton, Texas.

Mayor Storms Out - Resigns in Madill

10-4-04 - The mayor of Madill was forced to resign Monday night but vowed to stay on the city council. Council members called for Jodie Minter to step down as mayor after they discovered he had more than $1,000 in unpaid water bills.

Fire Forces Evacuation at School

10-4-04 – Students at Piner Middle School in Sherman were evacuated after an air conditioning unit on the roof of the building caught fire. Flames broke out just before classes started and students already at school were evacuated.

Today: Final Push to Register Voters

10-04-04 - The deadline to register to vote in the November election is Monday for Texans and Friday for those in Oklahoma. Registration is available at the county election boards, post offices, tag agencies or libraries.

Police Chief, Wife Laid to Rest

10-6-04 - Three days after they died in a motorcycle wreck in Texas, Jim Bob Thompson and his wife Linda were laid to rest in Marietta. Jim Bob served the city as police supervisor, while Linda was the city clerk.

Accidental Shooting Injures Woman

10-3-04- Grayson County authorities are investigating an accidental shooting at a home in Gunter Sunday evening. A woman was pulling linens out of a closet when a loaded revolver fell to the floor, went off, and struck her in the leg.

Habitat Home Helps Family

10-3-04- Volunteers from Habitat for Humanity are helping a Sherman family move out of an apartment and into a new home. Sunday, Habitat broke ground on their twelfth home in the area and say the Hester family will move in in about six months.

Crowd Protests Planned Parenthood

10-3-04- Protestors have been a common sight at the Planned Parenthood in Sherman since it opened several months ago, but Sunday, a large group lined the streets, forming a prayer circle near the office on Texoma Parkway.

Rough Landing for Skydiver

10-2-04- A rough landing at Skydive Dallas near Whitewright sent a skydiver to a Dallas Hospital with serious back injuries. Lifestar was called to the scene of the accident just before 8:00 p.m Saturday.
