The latest technology is used to make dental visits more comfortable. Digital x-rays and intraoral cameras are some of the tools we use to diagnose and explain treatment. Our video presentation gives information that is easy to understand and comprehend about any treatment you may need. Our TV screens that lie directly above you while you receive your treatment are a popular hit with those who have been dental phobic in the past. Cosmetic Dentistry

Smile Makeover
If you have considered veneers and/or crowns to improve the color or shape of your smile, it is important to choose a dentist who is highly trained in cosmetic dentistry. The techniques used for typical crown placement are different from those taught for the best cosmetic result. Dr. Guthrie has logged over 200 hours in continuing education at the prestigious LVI (Las Vegas Institute) for advanced dental cosmetic studies. We encourage you to make an appointment for a consult to see what makes our team the right choice for your dream smile.

Dr. Guthrie now uses the Cerec for same day crown and other porcelain restorations. For more information see www.cereconline.com

Comprehensive Family Dentistry

Dentistry has evolved greatly with technology and medical advancement. In the past people simply thought they should only seek dental care when a problem arose or pain was present. Many times when you wait until a tooth becomes painful, the stage of decay may be very advanced. Comprehensive dentistry includes routinely doing cleanings (the ADA recommends every 6 months), and exams by the Dentist. Problems can be caught early and treated when they are first beginning. Pain and infection can be avoided, and this can actually save you money since more costly procedures like root canals and crowns are avoided by treating the decay early. Oral cancer screening and periodontal exams are also done as indicated. The presence of gum disease has been documented to a direct correlation of other health issues such as stroke, heart attacks, and complications with pregnancy. With new studies and technology, we are more aware than ever about the importance of establishing good oral health.

Velscope Oral Cancer Screening

Protecting yourself from Oral Cancer
Every year, oral cancer claims as many lives as skin cancer and more than cervical cancer. Risk factors for oral cancer include smoking, using tobacco and drinking alcohol. 25% of people diagnosed have no risk factors at all. Oral cancer is rising in women and people under 40 and nonsmokers.

Here are some scary statistics:
-About 8,000 people in the US die from Oral Cancer each year
-About 30,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
-The 5-year survival rate is only 50%
However with early detection 5-year survival rate increases to 80%
This is why our dental team uses Velscope technology in addition to our visual exam. Velscope allows us to detect possible cancerous lesions earlier.

Electric vs. manual toothbrushes

Taking Care of Your Teeth-Do your really need an electric toothbrush?
Electric toothbrushes such as the Oral B Triumph are great. They make your job easier and help you become more efficient at cleaning your mouth. The new Triumph comes with a digital timer guiding you on brushing each quadrant of the mouth. The feedback from my patients after using this is how much easier brushing seems, and how much cleaner the teeth feel. A manual toothbrush can be just as efficient when used appropriately. Our office offers special pricing on a variety of electric toothbrushes and other dental hygiene aids.
