Cable One subscribers may not receive KXII in 2009

If you are a Cable One subscriber, you may not receive KXII after 12/31/2008. To ensure that you will continue to receive KXII news, weather, and programming, call Cable One.

The reason for this is that KXII is asking for a small amount from Cable One per subscriber, similar to what cable channels charge cable providers. For instance, ESPN receives an amount per subscriber from cable and satellite providers so they can provide that channel to their subscribers.

KXII, which is much more watched than any cable channel, is asking Cable One for a much smaller amount than cable channels receive.

KXII has already completed retransmission negotiations with approximately 75% of the cable systems in our coverage area. This announcement is to inform the subscribers of the carriers who are so far unwilling to negotiate.

Basically, we’re asking for a penny a day per subscriber from those cable companies. We think it’s a fair value for the local news, weather & sports as well as CBS programming we provide each & every day. In comparison, some subscriber cable systems pay 25 to 50 cents per subscriber to MTV and as much as $4 or $5 a month per subscriber to ESPN.

KXII-TV is the most-watched channels in the Sherman-Ada television market, and we’re still providing a free over the air broadcast signal. But when a cable operator takes our product, repackages it, and then sells it at a premium, that obviously has value. We’re simple asking to be compensated for that value.

If you want to continue to receive KXII news, weather, and programming, including CBS primetime shows, and CBS Sports events such as the NFL Playoffs and the NCAA March Madness, call Cable One to voice your concerns.
