It was a day that changed the lives of many people. What appeared as just an ordinary morning for Mary Burrow on her way to babysit her grandkids turned into a tragedy that affected many lives.

The following are exerps from police incident reports:

Excerpts from Incident Report:

Offense Narrative: 12/04/2003 Wood 122

On December 4, 2003 at 7am I received a phone call from Sherman Dispatcher Craig, who advised me of a fatality accident involving a pedestrian. The accident was on FM 1417 in front of Starr Aircraft. Upon arrival at 7:25am I spoke to Lt. Fair and Sgt. Ayers. Sgt. Ayers informed me that a minor accident occurred in the northbound lane and that a victim of the first accident walked south to speak with the other driver and was struck by another vehicle traveling north………

Follow-Up Narrative: 12/04/03 Gibson 066
Excerpts from this Report:

I observed a Ford F150 parked in the grass (northbound) just ahead of the Lincoln and a Jeep Cherokee directly behind the Ford F150. Sgt. Ayers advised that these drivers were witnesses to the accidents. Sgt. Ayers related that he had learned that the Lincoln was stopped in the northbound lane about to turn left into Starr Aircraft when the Kia (also northbound) struck the Lincoln with the front left portion of the Kia at the left rear of the Lincoln. The Kia continued northbound for approximately 50 yards where it came to rest off of the roadway. The Ford F150 and the Jeep Cherokee were also northbound. Behind the Kia stopped off of the roadway in the grass just ahead of the Lincoln. The victim (driver of the Kia) got out of his vehicle and started walking back to the Lincoln when the Oldsmobile drove thru the scene (northbound) in between the Lincoln and Jeep, traveling on the shoulder and struck the victim with the front right portion of the Oldsmobile. Writer observed upon arrival that it was daylight, with patchy fog which may have contributed to this accident.

Follow-Up Narrative: 12/04/03 Robinson 147

Excerpts from this report:

Witness said the man could not have taken more than 3 steps before the car hit him……He then walked to the car that hit the man and asked the lady if she was okay. The lady told him she was not and then asked him what she had hit. He told the lady she had hit a man. She asked if he was alright, and he told her “no.” Witness walked back to where the body was and said a prayer.

Mary was convicted of Criminal Negligent Homicide, and her story is a message to us all.

She has no remorse and still does not think she did anything wrong! She sounds like she is under the influence of something. Medicated? Alzheimers? She does not sound clear minded. WOW!

this woman could show some feelings toward his (mr.raper) family.she is selfish.

It makes me sick to my stomach that this lady has no sense of responsibility, no remorse and doesn't feel that justice was served. She should have gone to jail and her license taken away for the rest of her life.. she tries to blame everyone else but herself. It make me sick.

Mary really doesn't seem to show a whole lot of remorse. If I was in Mary's shoes, all I would be able to think about is the fact I killed someone and my life would never be the same again. I'm sure she feels terrible about what she did, but she seems more focused on her punishment. She took someone's LIFE! She should realize how lucky she is, not having to go to prison. This whole situation is a tragic one and I really do hope this story will inspire people to be more safe, when driving.

to raymomd, nice to see you mc! i figured you would have got the death report to see if it was actually related to the wreck or not, being that the news said it might not have been related? don't know if it is confidential or not but you are really into that wreck aren't you! I don't think that you will see the driver on info, you may not think it, but he is very upset about the whole situation.

Does this old lady understand that she killed a man? If the jury felt sorry for her because of her age then take away her drivers license so this doesnt happen again. She should count her blessings that she is not in prison and needs to stop throwing stones at other people such as Rapers family. His home life did not mean he deserved to die. She says the man with him should have grabbed him. Whos to say she wouldnt have killed them both if he would have tried just that. I hope my friends and family are never on the road when she is. Its a shame the Judge could not overrule the jurys decision on this case. I cant imagine hitting and killing an animal let alone a human being. People please learn my Ms. Burrows, slow down and looke around you, is it worth being a couple of minutes late somewhere to take a persons life? I think not. I pray for Mr. Rapers family that they can forgive this woman for her ignorance. Mary if I would have been on that jury you would be locked up for along time

I can't believe this woman has no remorse for killing an innocent man because of her negligence. She thinks justice was not served because she has to spend one night in jail a year. "BIG DEAL" What kind of justice is this for the victim? She should have been sent to prison no matter what her age is, I am sure there are people her age who go to prison all the time for crimes comitted. When I first hear about the accident I felt sorry for her because of her age. She even says in the interview age has nothing to do with it. She seems to put the blame on everyone else like the man standing with the victim should have grabbed him out of the way. I think she has no feelings and she thinks she has been wrong by the judge. I think the judge should have given her worse and I am embarrassed for having a jury that could be fooled by this old lady. She is heartless. She even puts his family down about being Christians. Ms. Burrows, going to church doesnt make you a Christian, You should be ashamed

Too many "PEDESTRIANS & CYCLISTS" are dying on "TEXOMA ROADS" as "DRIVERS" are in TOO MuCH of a RUSH, thinking only of "SELF" & Maybe it's time that troopers, police, and EMS stop commenting on whether someone has "non-lifethreatening injuries" or not... NONE of these PEOPLE are Doctors/Medical Examiners. ( Pedestrian hit with "non-lifethreatening injuries" on U.S. 75 in Sherman dies later at Dallas hospital ) ( http://www.kxii.com/home/headlines/12390411.html ) It is not against the law, nor should it be life threatening for a "PEDESTRIAN" to walk along the side of HWY75 in Sherman. "A REAL MAN" was hit from behind & subsquently died (§ 19.04. MANSLAUGHTER.) from an impact that happened on "HIS SIDE OF THE FOG LINE". The "DRIVER" that struck him had CHARGED "RUSH HOUR" 5:45 AFTERNOON traffic & ran out of RAMP & KILLED an unsuspecting PEDESTRIAN on the "side of the road". "DRIVERS" control you speed (§ 545.351(c)5) so that you do not run out of ramp & stay on your side of the FOG LINE.
